Board of Directors

 

Our Board of Directors currently has thirteen members.

Here is a brief profile of some of our Board Members:

Mr. Lorence Brown B.Sc., ACCA, CA.

Mr. Brown is the sixth Chairman in the over 50 year history of the movement. He has been on the Board since 1979. Prior to this he was a staffworker from 1977-1979, a Sponsor at the Brown's Town Community College and a member of the IVCF/UCCF from 1972-1975.

He holds a BSc in Management Studies, ACCA, CA. He has been at Mechala Group (Ja.) Ltd since 1996 as Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Mr. Brown is actively involved in the Church he fellowships with, Bethel Baptist, as he serves there as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.

While involved in the IVCF/UCCF he experienced a period of rapid spiritual growth, benefited tremendously from the relationships in the supporting fraternity of Christians and was exposed to Christian writers. He has also had leadership skills developed and is grateful for the opportunity to serve others.

He and his wife Audrey have two children.

His hobbies include singing, hiking and working with youth. In fact he's one of the founding members of the Peak Tours Jamaica Inc. and is hardly likely to miss an SFSU Walkathon.

 

Dr. Barry Wade, Ph.D., O.D.

Dr. Wade joined the Board of the SCFSU in 1969. In 1991 he became the 5th Chairman in the organizations history when he succeeded Dr. Alfred Sangster. A well-known Jamaican in the field of marine technology, he served the University of the West Indies from 1975-1980 as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marine Biology in the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) as General Manager (1985-1990), and the environmental firm, Environmental Solutions Ltd., sine 1990 as Chairman. In 1976, he received the Order of Jamaica (OD) for his outstanding work in the field of science and for his pioneering study on the Kingston Harbour.

Dr. Wade has served in several community organizations as Past President of the Jamaica Society of Scientists and Tecnologists (JSST), Vice Chairman of the Institute of Jamaica, and a former Director of the micro enterprise development agency ASSIST Ltd. He is a long standing member of the Mona Baptist Church where he served as deacon.

He and his wife Merle have two Children, Francis and Ruth, and two grandchildren.

Dr. Barry Wade is very much a product of the SCFSU movement, having become involved as a schoolboy at Wolmers Boys (where he was head boy) and continued as a student at the UWI. He has been involved in all facets of the work from camps, conferences, retreats and as Director and Chairman.

 

Dr. Alfred Sangster, Ph.D., J.P., C.D.

Dr Sangster has served the SCFSU for 46 years. He has been the orgaizations longest serving Chairman, having served in the Chair from 1958-1991. In the three decades in which he presided over the movement he witnessed the growth and development of the organization from its early stages to the celebration of its Jubilee.

A distinguished Jamaican educator, Dr. Sangster served as president of the University of Technology (formerly the College of Arts, Science and Technology) from 1972-1996. In this capacity he helped to produce one of the finest institutions in tertiary education in the British Commonwealth. Dr. Sangster is the recipient of many distinguished awards, notable the Commander of Distinction (CD) from the Government of Jamaica, the Doctor of Laws from the UWI, and the Gleaner Distinguished Award.

In the field of Public Service Dr. Sangster has a distinguished record, having served on numerous Boards, among them the Scientific Research Council, the Metrification Board, the Road Safety Council, the Merle Grove High School, The Jamaica Theological Seminary and the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology.

More Recently, Dr. Sangster was pressed upon to take up the work of the Citizen's Action for Free and Fair Election (CAFFE).

Dr. Sangster and his wife Velma have three children and two grandchildren.

 

Mr. Linroy Marshall MSc., F.C.A.

Mr. Marshall joined the Board of the SCFSU in 1979 and has served as Tresurer.

He is a graduate of UWI where he served as IVCF Vice President 1975-1976, President 1976-1977, and cell group leader.

Mr. Marshall is very involved in his church, The Missionary Church Association in Jamaica, at First Church, East Street.

He and his wife Yvonnette have four children.
